Dazzling and Confused...

I know that "Dazed and Confused" is how the saying--and the song--goes.  But my 'Sweet Lillian' amaryllis is more dazzling than dazed in its confusion:

This is its third bloom since I bought it back in November 2008 as a present for my grandmother.  The first bloom was a lot fuller, but I'm not complaining.  It has yet to receive a rest period--or fertilizer--and it is planted in a serving bowl with only pebbles (no actual soil) anchoring it in.  Given the sum of that abuse, it is performing admirably, I think!

And maybe, just maybe... maybe this will be the year that I remember to bring it in for a rest, and then pot it up for Grandma.  Finally.

That's a great performance. It's a beautiful thing, and I'm sure your grandma would love it. (Nudge, nudge.)

Heck, I would just give it some fertilizer and tell Grandma about how beautiful it is. tee hee...Of course it would be nice of you to actually see to it that she gets to see it.

Wonderful amaryllis, for sure! That's wonderful that it's been such a great bloomer without resting/fertilizer. I wish they were all that easy to get along with.

It is a stunner.

Love the color combination. I saw a lot of weird orange amaryllis blooming in Hawaii. They seemed to be so random.

MMGD and Greenbow Lisa, can you both please nudge me--no, wait, I'll probably need a kick in the butt!--again in the fall when I SHOULD let it go dormant and then pot it up for grandma?!! *grin*

Layanee and Tina, I agree--it's SO beautiful. :)

Jodi and Stratoz, this is the second time it's been in bloom without much help from me. I like to think that it portends a great gardening year for all of us!

Digital Flower Pictures, I would ADORE an orange amaryllis. I can never afford the funky ones like 'La Paz,' and the pinks and whites are generally not my thing, this exception notwithstanding. But orange? Sign me up!!!

portends is one cool word. made my day for some reason. maybe it was the whole thought of hope.

Probably... between the fire and the layoffs and all the rest, it seems understandable that you might have needed a little optimism and hope right about now! :)
