Wordless Wednesday

Taken at the Cleveland Botanical Garden August 4, 2007.
(If I didn't know that I took it, I would think that it was a postcard or something. I am seriously amazed at how well this turned out... click it to see the detail.)

Beautiful shot, but don't you mean 2007?

Felicitations!

Did you screw up the date again? Geez! :) :) :)

Are you living in the future? LOL and THAT is a great shot. I have been working at the DF shots and they are not easy to photograph. They are so fast! Really good shot and perhaps you should make postcards out of it.

Nice photo

Pam, Chuck and Layanee, LOL! I'm so bad with dates. And times. Can you tell?!!!

Layanee, I was amazed--this guy sat so still for so long, and didn't even move when I got close to him. (I took the pic from about a foot and a half away.) Maybe it was the heat and humidity? In any case, I probably won't make postcards (too lazy) but it does make good computer wallpaper if you want to right-click on it. :)

Bill, thanks!

You may be bad with dates but you're great with bugs. Do you have special mind control techniques that you use to make them stay still?
:)

Wow, that's beautiful! Dragonflies are soooo hard to photograph (and ID).

Seems that everyone is traveling to gardens! I think I see more public/botanical gardens than my own these days!

Christmas card photo! My monarch butterfly shot from last week is my leading candidate at the moment. Send a bit of summer at the holidays. I'm always suprised when one of my photos turns out great. It's amazing what these little digital cameras can do. Imagine if we had the cool ones with different lens and stuff.

Hey,
Great shot of the dragonfly. I am planning to get a camera and take pictures of nature. What a waonderful garden assistant. If you are interested in a good read for the winter, try "Diary of a Wannabe Gardener." You can preview the book at www.bbotw.com I believe all gardeners should read the book for a laugh and inspiration. Keep on gardening. Enjoy nature and enjoy life.

Shoot--I am not seeing this image in Safari or Firefox.

Huh.

I can't see an image either. Not even a box with an 'x' in it. :-(

Right at this moment the pictures are not showing for me...only little boxes with crosses in them.

However, I do want to comment on your vegetables in the previous post. I have rarely seen such a colourful combination, and the cannas add so much to the planting mix.

Re a garden plan. Mine was in my head and though it had some structure to it, it was a mere sketch on a scrap of paper. The overall outlay is best seen in Autumn and early Spring once my machete and secateurs have been busy :) Over the Summer months the plants are allowed to spill onto the paths, softening the edges. So, where there had been room for two to walk together, the space is much less defined, and we invariably end up walking, one behind the other :)

Kim: I saw the picture the other day...honest but today, nothing! I think blogspot is having some internal problems or maybe it is the flood. Are you okay where you are?

Anthony, lol! I wish. :)

entangled, you're so right. I didn't even attempt an ID.

robin, I guess it's that time of the year. I had meant to go a lot earlier, but it seems that I always have things to do in my own garden in the spring and fall!

heather, I know! I was shocked when the picture showed up on the screen looking so good. lol. Christmas card... hmm... :)

anonymous, thanks! I love having a digital camera and am rarely without it anymore.

EAL, Kylee, Wildlife Gardener and Layanee, I don't know what happened... I hadn't gone through and edited that post or anything, and yet when I went back in today the picture was gone so I had to add it back. (But you can see that a nice little box under the newly reappearing picture that there's a blank picture box... gremlins, I tell you!)

Layanee, no flooding here in Cleveland, but "home" is a mess and I am headed there tonight. I am now packed for a wedding (my brother's), a funeral (my sister-in-law's father), and "work clothes" like old pants and t-shirts, and old hiking boots, in case I have time to help clean up at any of the flooded houses on Sunday... two of my uncles have messes to clean up, and my soon-to-be sister-in law's parents' house is a wreck as it had a basement full plus a foot or so of standing water in the main part of the house.

(If any of you saw the bride's parents on ABC World News last night... my brother is marrying their daughter tomorrow. We hope!)

FANTASTIC! I really love the sun reflection on the water drops around the leaves. Especially on close-up. Looks like someone rimmed them with those rope lights. Good job.

Wow--that IS a fantastic photo, Kim, good on you for catching it. Another one of those photos that I'd like to have hanging on the wall here in my office. Thanks for sharing it. You're obviously more patient a photographer than I am!

GORGEOUS! Now, the question is, do I mean you or the dragonfly photo or both? :)
What a fantastic shot (everything: the colours, light, focal point, texture, arrangement....). I'm noticing tons of dragonflies here lately but apparently they are on serious missions and cannot stop, not even for and Empress. Lucky you!

Great photo.(I can only see the first picture) I stopped by from Kris's blog you take great pictures!

Hi Kim - that is a great photo of a beautiful dragonfly. I'm always dropping my jaw when I shoot a spectacular photo too! :)

Your comment about the bluestem: I don't think mine has ever had great blue color, but the form and movement and autumn/winter color kind of makes up for it. I wonder if amt of light, soil type, water, etc etc affects the color?? (OR...maybe mine was mismarked and I have something else entirely! lol)

Kim - now I can see it, and WOW!! Fabulous! You really do need to go to VistaPrint.com and have some postcards or notecards made of that!

I had no idea that you had family with flooding problems. My heart goes out to them. I know how it's been just dealing with three inches of water in our basement. The smell alone is just disgusting. We've lost some books, had some furniture damage (swelling from the water), and the ordeal of removing the carpet and padding and getting that cleaned and dried out has been bad enough. But to have what you're describing... :-(. I hope things get straightened around for all involved soon.

Ah, now I see it. Very cool. Good timing!

I had trouble seeing the photo last Friday, too....now I see it-fantastic! I hope your weekend went well, and your family is getting through the mess okay. I sure wish rain were more evenly distributed this season...I need some and get none, others with flooding just get more and more....*sigh*. Ah well, all we can do is "roll with it" I suppose! Anyhow, great picture!

I'm adding my kudos to everyone else's. Fantastic picture! Amazing how all the little details in the wings are showing, et. Just beautiful. I always feel like it's a happy accident when I get a really good shot too :) I've been lucky to get a couple of DF's to sit still for me this summer.
I happened to stop back and read your comment on Country Girl's post about the Cornell Plantations and you're right...the Salvia is an annual (I looked it up)! Darn! Obviously I've never grown it before :) Don't know why I just assumed it was a perennial. The package didn't say. Thanks for pointing that out. I love the way we learn from each other :)
