February Foliage Follow-Up

I am admittedly a foliage girl--and by that, I mean a foliage addict.  If a plant has unusual variegation, dark color, or a twist... I drool.  And then scheme on how to add that plant to my collection.  So I simultaneously adored Pam's idea for Foliage Follow-Up after every Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day... and dreaded the thought of posting a photo of every single plant that I wanted to feature.

So I am resolved to limiting myself to just three different plants each week.  (Not counting the opening photo above--that's technically a photo showing the fuzzy stem on the spent flower of the paphiopedilum, not the awesome checkered-looking foliage.  I SWEAR.  ;)  Here are this month's, in no particular order:

kalanchoe beharensis
A native of Madagascar... I bought this kalanchoe beharensis at the local garden center because I love seeing it at the CBG Glasshouse when I volunteer.

sanseviera 'Twisted Sister'
I don't know which I like better, the combination of silver foliage detail and bright yellow edge... or the twisty foliage:

hoya kerrii albomarginata
I know, I showed this plant last time, too.  But I'm absolutely amazed at its leaves... and I love the way it looks against the pot that the Jade Plant from H___ lives in, too:

I had to put my hand in there for one photo, to show off the size of those leaves.  They're so pretty and large that they look fake!

Hope you've enjoyed my Foliage Follow-Up... and remember, you can find more fine foliage to enjoy by visiting Pam @ Digging.

aloha,

beautiful posts today on all your amazing textures, colors and variegations, i actually love the first photo of your variegated plant, whats the name on that one?

i'm also a kalanchoe freak and these can get huge in the garden in the right conditions.

Thanks, Layanee and Leslie! Leslie, I'm completely smitten with this hoya's leaves, too... :)

Aloha, Noel! Lucky you... we can't grow the kalanchoes in our gardens here unless we dig and bring them in for the winter. It gets too cold here!

That first plant with the checkerboard-looking foliage is a hybrid paphiopedilum orchid, aka ladyslipper orchid. I'll post the full name of mine when I get home and check the tag, but there are a lot of "paphs" that have similarly foliage. You can find out a little more about them (and see some cool photos) on this wikipedia page.

Somebody really has it out for women - naming a mother-in-law plant, 'Twisted Sister' - lol. I like it though:)

So pretty! The kalanchoe makes me want to pet it, sort of looks like a fuzzy oyster. :)

I love a plant that looks fake - thanks for the hand scale photo. The Hoya is awesome.

Nice collection of foliages, Kim. Miss having a fuzzy kalanchoe like that, though. Now i'll have to go find one.

I knew you'd have some good foliage to show us, Kim. I'm a fan of 'Twisted Sister' for the name alone, but the twist is also neat. Thanks for joining in Foliage Follow-Up.

Thank you, Kim for naming another of our mystery kalanchoes! Ours doesn't look nearly as happy as yours though... And that hoya is outrageous. Love. Want.

Oooh, the texture on that kalanchoe is so cool! That's foliage you want to touch as well as look at.

I would absolutely buy a plant called "Twisted Sister" for the name, no matter WHAT it was! I bought onion sets this year named "Red Zeppelin" :) Thank you for sharing your fabulous foliage.

I'm a HUGE fan of foliage, as you may know. Hey...my mom gave me her Kalanchoe beharensis, which I found out on Twitter yesterday is the cultivar 'Fang' due to its prickly things on the bottom of the leaves. The plant had some issues when Mom gave it to me, but it's doing better now and shows new growth at the top and at the base.

That Hoya is amazing!

Oh my! This is the first I've heard of a foliage version of bloom day - what a fabulous idea! I'm way more into foliage than blooms. Thanks for sharing!
