Spider Sighting!

My resident spider is still alive! I thought that last week's cold weather and snowstorms might have done him in, especially since I didn't see him move from the inside of the window frame for several days.

Last night, however, we saw him finally venture back out to repair his web. Today I got one good picture of him in the middle of the web before he retreated to the safety of the window frame ledge. I love how he sits on that ledge--two of his seven legs slung casually over the frame, both touching the web so he can monitor its movement.

The temps are supposed to be pretty mild in the short term, so we can probably enjoy watching him all week. On the other hand, he puts bad music in my head:
You're stayin' alive, stayin' alive...
Feel the city breakin' and everybody shakin' people, stayin' alive, stayin' alive...

Seriously, if I have to have a BeeGees song in my head, why can't it be Jive Talkin'?!

The spider saga continues! It's great to hear that you haven't just killed it - yet, anyway.

Is he/she catching any food at the moment now that the temperature is droppping?

LOL--as much as I appreciate spiders, I will never look forward to seeing one...ick :-)

And thanks a lot for getting that song stuck in my head......

Stuart, we were wondering about which would eventually kill it, the cold weather or the lack of food sources. We saw it grab a gnat or two last week, so it found food then at least. I'm thinking we'll never really know why it dies when it eventually goes.

Colleen, you're welcome! lol. I had it stuck in my head for at least 5 minutes before I decided to pass it on via the blog--that idea didn't quite purge it, though. Argh! :)

Laughing at the song stuck in your head. Poor spider. I was going through my photo database and I found some pictures of a spider that I took in the summer. It's long gone, though.

Feel bad for the spider, no.

Feel bad for someone who has a Bee-Gees song stuck in their head, yes.

Now if you could just train the spider to SING "Stayin' Alive"...hahahaha!!

When we were kids my mom usually had one spider up in the corner near the kitchen door. Other people thought she was weird not to kill her spider, but you might have approved, Kim!

It seems to me I've seen them all year round in Austin - so if you start jonesin' for a spider sighting in February, come on down.

Karen, Rick and Snappy, thanks for stopping by... I hope I didn't get the BeeGees stuck in your head, too! *grin*

Lisa, NO!!! lol. Having the real version in my head is bad enough.

Annie, I too suspect that I might have approved of your Mom leaving the spider near the kitchen door. As for spider hunting in February, if Austin wasn't so far away I'd be there in a heartbeat. :)

Or...Joan Osborne's Spider Web ...in Ray Charles' head. Love spiders and save them when we can but somehow the fat bodies give me the willies.

ki, thank you--I've now had Joan in my head for the last two hours! :) MUCH better than the BeeGees... and if you ever get a chance to go see her in concert, she puts on a good show, too!
