April Foliage Follow-Up

Since Pam posted about her yellow-striped jungle for this month's Foliage Follow Up, I thought it was only fair for me to lead off with my yellow-variegated iris foliage. It really pops out of the garden right now, surrounded by the caramel tones of carex buchanii, grounded by 'Little Fingers' sedum, and softened by the deep, dark, fine foliage of bronze fennel.

More caramel coloring--this time tinged with peach--helps this heuchera warm up the emerging silver artemisia:

Sea kale leaves turn a light, powdery blue throughout the summertime.  But when they emerge, they're a shockingly beautiful combination of deeper blue leaves and purple veins:

With 'Diablo' purple ninebark leaves, it's completely the opposite. Instead of getting lighter as the season goes on, they emerge as an almost coppery combination of green and purple... and then turn a deep, dark purple by the time summer begins.

For even more foliage to enjoy, head on over to Pam's and check out the links in the comment section!

Your foliage is always an inspiration to me Kim. I will have to get out and try to see something to post. Everything is up and running in this mild weather we have had. I have a beautiful Ninebark too, called Summer Wine. It looks so pretty with that rich red color. Have a great weekend.

I'm simply mad for that variegated iris foliage. I've seen pics of it in one of Lauren Springer Ogden's books, underplanted with yellow crocus or something like that. Beautiful! Thanks for joining in, Kim.

I have to agree with Lisa, your foliage combinations are the best...I am thoroughly enjoying the warmer tones of the heuchera these days~which completely surprises me!

I love the carex buchanii and it combines beautifully with the other plants. And that heuchera--lovely.

Oooh, Greenbow Lisa, I LOVE all of the other colors of the ninebarks, too! I keep trying to figure out a place where I can plant 'Coppertina'... maybe at my Mom's house or something. :-)

Pam, do you know when the best time would be for you to try to plant this iris in your area? (We move them after they bloom, but I'm guessing it's too hot by then in Texas!) If you find out, let me know--I'd be happy to send you a start.

Aww, thanks, Gail. :-) I'm actually not surprised that you like the warm-colored heuchera. It would look fabulous with your purple-painted wood and that PPPP! (Did I use enough P's there?!)

Tina, thank you! It seems like people either really love or really hate those brown carex grasses... guess you're on my side there! :-)

Thanks so much, Stratoz. May yours do the same for you!
